In the day-to-day of running a practice it can be easy to let the business side of things take a back seat. Unfortunately, when trust and business accounting mistakes happen, there can be serious ramifications, and attorneys can even be disbarred. Join us to learn the basics every attorney needs to know to succeed.

The New Jersey Office of Attorney Ethics will provide insights on:

  • Basic obligations under the Court Rules and Rules of Professional Conduct
  • Protecting client funds
  • Trust accounting essentials
  • Principles of negligent vs. knowing misappropriation
  • What to expect in a random audit

This program will cover the essential Rules of Professional Conduct, with a refresher on Rule 121-6 and why you should be looking at it more often; what it means to have good recordkeeping and supervised staff and why that is important; how to and how long to maintain files; what to do if negligent misappropriation happens and how to address it; and where to get help.
