Youth sports leagues in New Jersey are ubiquitous. In New Jersey Youth Soccer alone there are more than 110,000 players, over 10,000 coaches and thousands of volunteers. The range of organizations that host sports and other play activities for our children are a valuable resource for our communities but can only persist if children and adults associated with the sports are kept safe.
This program will address the latest legal issues involved in representing youth sports organizations. Our experienced panelists will help you understand the applicable statutes and latest regulations and caselaw, review the current liability standards for coaches, staff and assistants, and will examine legal issues involved in the worst of poor sportsmanship among coaches, players and parents. Of course, no update in 2024 would be complete without a discussion of NIL law and how that is trickling down to high school athletes.
Topics include
- Waiver and acknowledgment validity – Adult waivers versus adults purported waiver for children;
- High school and athletic organization participant and spectator personal injuries statutory and common law standards;
- Player eligibility issues;
- Player and spectator sportsmanship issues;
- Post-secondary state school and New Jersey secondary school athletics; and
- NIL – Name Image Likeness endorsement and player bonus/benefits/gifts.
Don’t miss it!
