Job Description:

Stockton University is seeking to fill a non-tenure track-teaching specialist (NTTP) position in the area of Criminal Justice for September 2026. Successful applicants will demonstrate excellence in teaching in a liberal arts environment. The Criminal Justice program specifically seeks applicants to teach courses in the U.S. judicial system, criminal law, criminal procedure, legal studies research, and/or constitutional law, as well as core courses in Criminal Justice. The position is renewable annually. Multi-year contracts are a possibility.

Descriptions of Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
• The primary teaching assignment of the candidate will be to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the U.S. judicial system, criminal law, criminal procedure, legal studies research, and/or constitutional law. Applicants are expected to model teaching excellence by demonstrating the impact of pedagogical approaches. Teaching load is 16 hours each semester (4 courses at 4 credit hours).
• Applicants must be able to teach Courts, Law, Procedure (undergraduate level) and Constitutional Law for Criminal Justice (undergraduate level) and/or Judicial Process (graduate level). See Stockton’s Course Catalog for descriptions of these courses.
• Applicants will be expected to develop graduate and undergraduate courses in the U.S. judicial system, criminal law, criminal procedure, legal studies research, and/or constitutional law. These courses may incorporate other areas of criminal justice practice and/or theory.
• Applicants must also be able to teach at least one other course of our current offerings in our core curriculum as needed (e.g., Introduction to Criminal Justice, Policing, Corrections, Victimology, Race and Criminal Justice, Special Populations in Criminal Justice, Research Methods, and/or Statistics). Applicants are also expected to contribute to the General Studies curriculum by teaching General Studies courses.
• Applicants must be able to contribute to student advising as required and negotiated under collective bargaining agreements.
• Applicants must also contribute to the Stockton community at the program and school/university through sustained and impactful service activities.
• Applicants must be able to support Stockton University’s diversity commitment and strong student-centered vision and mission.

Required Qualifications:
• Master’s degree or J.D. from an accredited college or university
• Demonstrated teaching experience in higher education settings
Preferred Qualifications:
• A J.D. or J.D./Ph.D. is strongly preferred
• Significant experience practicing criminal law is strongly preferred for appointment
• Significant practical experience in criminal justice, legal community advocacy, relevant volunteer or staff positions, and/or fields of legal practice is of benefit
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching in higher education settings and service to the criminal justice community
