Reducing the number of statewide judicial vacancies to 11 represents a significant milestone in restoring a fair, efficient Judiciary equipped to meet the needs of New Jersey residents. The New Jersey State Bar Association commends the Governor for advancing judicial nominations and the Legislature for acting swiftly to confirm judges during this session. Attorneys, litigants and judges across the state know firsthand the consequences of an understaffed bench – prolonged family law matters, children left in limbo during custody disputes and mounting pressures on judges and court staff. Without sustained action, New Jersey risks returning to a cycle of chronic vacancies. The NJSBA remains steadfast in its advocacy for continued judicial appointments and will work collaboratively with policymakers to ensure the courts are fully staffed and capable of delivering timely justice. The Association looks forward to continuing this work with Governor-Elect Mikie Sherrill’s administration.
