The NJSBA asked the state’s labor commissioner and chief judge of the Division of Workers’ Compensation to resume hearing cases to ensure that New Jersey’s injured workers continue to receive their statutory benefits in a time of financial stress, just as other litigants’ rights continue to be met in the superior courts.

The New Jersey Supreme Court’s Committee on the Unauthorized Practice of Law opinion that agrees with the NJSBA’s recommended position that Medicaid advisors can assist with gathering and filing documents, but cannot advise on taking steps to qualify for medicaid, spending down assets or providing tax advice. The association’s Elder and Disability Law Section and the Professional Responsibility and Unlawful Practice Committee sought the opinion. – May 16, 2016

The New Jersey State Bar Association’s governing body, acting on a report from the Meeting Arrangements and Program Committee, reaffirmed its support for continuing the Mid-Year Meeting which results in meaningful business relationships, business development opportunities and is a financially self-sustaining and valuable member benefit. New Jersey State Bar Association’s Pro Bono Task Force Report: Closing the Justice Gap – May 2012
The task force report, which the state bar association’s governing body supported and accepted at its May meeting in Atlantic City, is now being circulated throughout the legal community for further comment and President Kevin P. McCann will soon appoint an ad hoc committee to continue the examination of the specific recommendations in the report and make recommendations regarding implementation. Comments are due Sept. 12. The association’s Board of Trustees will review the feedback on each recommendation and determine what further action will be taken on each item. Comments can be submitted to Kate Coscarelli at [email protected].
