Artificial Intelligence is no longer just a buzzword: it is rapidly becoming a standard tool in every stage of the judicial process – from how evidence is gathered and presented to how trials are managed and decisions are rendered. The adoption of these tools comes with the dual challenge of integrating these innovations while preserving fundamental ethical legal principles.

This 90-minute session cuts through the hype to provide a practical roadmap for using AI safely and effectively. This segment will explore key domains where emerging technologies are reshaping litigation, evidentiary standards, and courtroom practice. We will further explore how to balance the efficiency of new technology with your professional duties of competence and confidentiality, ensuring you stay ahead of the curve without jeopardizing your license.

Topics will include:

  • The Ethics of AI: Understanding your Duty of Competence (Rule 1.1) and Supervision in the age of algorithms.
  • Evidence: Evidentiary standards when using AI.
  • Disclosure: When and how you need to inform clients and the courts that you are using AI tools.
  • Practical Application: A look at current "safe" use cases for use in litigation.
  • Confidentiality Traps: Why inputting client data into public tools (like standard ChatGPT) can be an immediate ethics violation.
  • Avoiding "Hallucinations": Practical tips for verifying AI-generated citations and ensuring accuracy in your filings.
