A Presentation for NJSBA members from the Lawyer Well-Being Committee

Speaker - Cedric Ashley, Esq., M.Div., M.A.

Can having a sense of purpose in life lead to better health and a more meaningful life? Does having a clear sense of purpose positively impact employee performance and productivity? In this 60-minute introductory program, attendees will learn the answers not only to these questions but also to how purpose in life is central to many models of well-being, resilience, and flourishing. Purpose can and should be viewed as the GPS or North Star of one’s overall well-being plan and strategy. Attendees will leave the program with some practical strategies for cultivating purpose within their lives and the practice of law. At the close of the program, attendees will be more “purpose literate,” which is the beginning step toward acquiring information that leads to transformation.

Cedric Ashley is a lawyer, professional coach, scholar, and well-being strategist whose work sits at the intersection of well-being, purpose, positive psychology, and human flourishing. He is the creator of the PRECISE Well-Being Model — an original, research-informed framework for cultivating flourishing across seven integrated life domains — which serves as the governing philosophy of Beyond Resilience: Cultivating a Philosophy and Practice of P.R.E.C.I.S.E. Well-Being.

Cedric holds a J.D. from Rutgers Law School, a Master of Divinity from Drew University Theological School, and a Master of Arts in Happiness Studies from Centenary University, where he is currently completing his doctorate in Happiness Studies and Human Flourishing with a focus on meaning and purpose for individuals and workplace meaning and purpose. He is a credentialed ICF Associate Certified Coach and a Positive Intelligence Coach. He completed his coach training through the George Mason University Center for the Advancement of Well-Being.

Through his individual and organizational practice, Cedric works with professionals and organizations seeking to move beyond the management of stress toward the cultivation of genuine purpose and sustained well-being. His organizational offerings include keynote presentations; workshops; individual, group, and team coaching; well-being program development; and ongoing advisory retainer relationships — all grounded in the PRECISE framework and the Positive Sustained Change (PSC) methodology.

Note: This meeting is restricted to current members of the NJSBA or the Lawyer Well-Being Committee.
