ATLANTIC CITY – Robert B. Hille was sworn in last night as immediate past president of the New Jersey State Bar Association.
A partner at McElroy, Deutsch, Mulvaney & Carpenter, Hille concentrates on insurance and healthcare law and represents many professionals. He has been published and lectured widely in both areas. He is certified by the Supreme Court as a civil trial attorney, and is a member of the Court’s Civil Practice Committee.
Hille said he was honored to represent the voice and interests of association members and carry on the mission of the organization on behalf of the profession.
"It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the members of this great organization and work with a dedicated group of volunteers to accomplish so much on behalf of our profession," said Hille. "I set out on my tenure with the goal of ensuring our association would be in position to be proactive, rather than reactive, to the events and issues that are shaping the legal profession. Together we have accomplished a great deal to ensure New Jersey lawyers are supported, informed and have the necessary tools to thrive."
During his tenure, Hille instituted a cybersecurity task force, which provided educational conferences and provided information members could use in their daily practices; organized a group to take a prospective look at the practice of law to make recommendations about how to improve the profession; spearheaded efforts to educate lawyers and the community about the Veterans Diversion Program; was an outspoken advocate on the challenges third-party lawyer service providers present to the profession and society; and made in-roads toward advancing legislation that would put lawyers and other professionals on the same playing field as doctors, in terms of the statute of limitations for malpractice actions.
“Our members do great things and we want to keep helping them. Now is the time to be proactive and work together with all three branches of government to ensure the profession remains a thriving part of our democracy,” he said.
His bar association activities have been extensive. He previously served as a trustee of the state bar association, and as chair of the Finance and Operations, Insurance Benefits and Amicus committees. He also is a member of the Long-Term Planning, Malpractice Insurance, and Meeting Arrangements and Program committees, and is a member of the Certified Attorneys Section. He is also a trustee of the New Jersey State Bar Foundation. Hille is a former president of the Bergen County Bar Association.
He is a graduate of Bucknell University and earned his law degree from Seton Hall University School of Law. Hille is admitted to practice in New Jersey and New York, the United States Third Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court.
Hille is married and has two daughters.
