The current national socio-political climate poses serious challenges to fundamental rights for LGBTQ+ people. In some instances, the adoption of a public policy that directly limits creating, affirming, welcoming, and equitable places of public accommodation show the erosion of hard-fought rights for people in the LGBTQ+ and in particular for transgender, gender non-conforming, and non-binary youth. While here in New Jersey, there are a plethora of strong legislative and common law protections, New Jersey is not insulated from the forces that pose challenges to equal justice for LGBTQ+ people.
The 2023 LGBTQ Rights Section Annual Update will identity current challenges to sustaining equal justice and LGBTQ+ rights in a myriad of areas and the panelists in each discussion will offer practical strategies for legal practitioners across practice areas to promote equal justice, procedural fairness, and inclusive practices.
The program will be divided into two 100-minute sessions; one on youth and one on adults. Time will be allotted during each discussion for attendees to raise questions and share in addressing hypotheticals presented.
