Gov. Phil Murphy signed a bill in July 2024 which revised the "Tax Sale Law" and the "In Rem Tax Foreclosure Act" to bring those laws in compliance with the 2023 U.S. Supreme Court decision in Tyler v. Hennepin County. The decision had led to concerns that New Jersey’s system concerning the sale and ultimate foreclosure of tax liens could violate the U.S. Constitution.
Though the new law addressed some problems, there are still unanswered questions and issues that attorneys on both sides of the sale must be aware of.
Join Nick Timpanaro, an experienced title examiner and foreclosure specialist, and Keith Bonchi, Esq. of GMS Law, as they provide an update on what attorneys need to know about tax sale foreclosure in 2025. Timpanaro will review the tax sale foreclosure process, discuss the new statute and recent case law, provide first-hand knowledge of the law’s effect on investors and municipalities and answer your questions.
