Thousands of Attorneys and Judges to Attend 2021 Virtual NJSBA Annual Meeting 
Domenick Carmagnola to be sworn in Thursday as NJSBA 2021-2022 President
NEW BRUNSWICK – The state’s legal community will come together Wednesday for the New Jersey State Bar Association’s (NJSBA) Annual Meeting for educational seminars, speeches and networking events. It is the largest annual gathering of the legal community, with thousands of lawyers, judges, law clerks and law students expected to attend the virtual three-day event May 19-21.
   
NJSBA President Kimberly A. Yonta opens the 2021 Annual Meeting Wednesday morning with a brief report about the past year. It will be followed with the keynote presentation by CNN’s Chief Medical Correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta, a practicing neurosurgeon, who will discuss his research and findings from his new book, Keep Sharp: Build a Better Brain at Any Age, with NJSBA 2021-2022 President Domenick Carmagnola.
   
Other speakers during the three days include New Jersey Supreme Court Chief Justice Stuart Rabner, U.S. District Court Judge Chief Judge Freda L. Wolfson, several sitting members of the state Supreme Court and federal bench; state Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal will speak at “A Year after George Floyd: A Moment or a Movement?” and Acting New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Shaw LaTourette will give a presentation on the unique risks that New Jersey faces from climate change.
   
Nearly every topic and trend percolating in the legal world will be explored by the lawyers, judges and other experts who know it best. Get the latest on pandemic’s effect on the law, from potential pitfalls on mandatory vaccinations in the workplace, to its impact on women in the legal profession, to navigating virtual and hybrid trials. Scores of cutting-edge and topical seminars covering numerous practice areas, including family, criminal, real property, municipal court, immigration and more, and sessions on diversity and inclusion and bench-bar will be available over three days.

Highlights
   
On Wednesday, NJSBA President Kimberly A. Yonta will kick off the Annual Meeting at the Opening Business Session, where she will deliver a brief report about the past year. It will be followed by the keynote presentation featuring a discussion with CNN’s Chief Medical Correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta, who will discuss his new book, Keep Sharp, with NJSBA 2021-2022 President Domenick Carmagnola.
   
And dozens of seminars on cutting-edge legal topics, such as, “A Year After George Floyd: A Moment or a Movement?,” “High Expectations! How Will the Legalization of Marijuana Impact Communities of Color?” and “Hot Tips for Hot Litigators: Virtual and Hybrid Trials Edition.”
   
On Thursday, NJSBA 2021-2022 President Domenick Carmagnola and the new officers will be sworn in; dozens of sessions will be presented, from a review of key state Supreme Court cases over the past year to an overview of adult cannabis use laws in New Jersey and a presentation by Judge Nelson Johnson (retired), author of Boardwalk Empire, on his new book, Darrow’s Nightmare.
   
Beginning at 9 a.m. Friday, Chief Justice Stuart Rabner and U.S. District Court Judge Chief Judge Freda L. Wolfson will deliver remarks on the State of the Judiciary, and numerous bench-bar conferences will be presented in family, civil trial, criminal and workers’ compensation law.
