This compelling interactive program explores the ethical obligations of lawyers throughout every practice area as you navigate the use of technology in your practice.
We all recognize that tech is pervasive in the legal profession and essential for optimizing office management, marketing, and legal practice. Yet, we also know that minefields lurk everywhere!
This distinguished faculty will use hypotheticals to ask “what would you do?” as they explore legal ethics in the digital age. They will also review leading decisions and ethics opinions to elucidate a lawyer’s ethical obligations.
By the end of this session, attendees will:
- Understand the Core New Jersey Professional Conduct Rules and how they relate to technology, data, and AI.
- Recognize what “competence” means in the digital age, including obligations for ongoing education and technological awareness.
- Know how to protect client confidentiality in a digital/remote work environment—and what “reasonable efforts” require in New Jersey.
- Identify ethical risks of using AI, social media, and cloud technology, with practical examples from New Jersey and national discussions.
- Prepare practical steps for adopting and supervising new technology in legal practice, including risk assessment and incident response.
