Elevate your understanding of judicial ethics by joining us for a lunchtime session tailored for attorneys. Gain valuable insights into standards of ethical conduct for judges in New Jersey and at all levels of the judiciary, empowering you to navigate this critical area with confidence.
Enforceable judicial codes are a hot topic nationally. This is your opportunity to deepen your knowledge of how New Jersey regulates its judges. You will also discover how our system of regulating judges compares with other jurisdictions, equipping you with a broader perspective on ethical standards.
You will benefit from the expertise of our distinguished faculty, including a retired Judge of the Appellate Division and an esteemed attorney with over 30 years of experience providing representation and advice in ethics and disciplinary proceedings. They will share insights into the New Jersey Code of Judicial Conduct and other binding and non-binding standards in light of reported ethics concerns surrounding the U.S. Supreme Court.
The program is designed with your needs in mind, focusing on real-life examples of judicial behavior warranting concern. We will explore sanctions imposed and the proposals aimed at holding the Supreme Court to enforceable standards of judicial conduct.
Take a deep dive into what attorneys need to know about judicial standards, potential conflicts of interest, and the avenues available to attorney litigators and others for addressing judicial misconduct. With a focus on New Jersey’s robust and stringent judicial ethics code, as well as federal court regulations, you will gain a clear analysis of the impact of the recently adopted ethics code for the Supreme Court in the absence of any enforcement mechanism. Our experts will also address how New Jersey’s strict judicial standards serve as a model and what lawyers can do when they encounter questionable judicial behavior.
Throughout the session, you will benefit from the presenters’ decades of experience, gaining practical insights through the prism of both notorious and lesser-known examples of judicial misconduct. This session promises to be both enlightening and highly engaging, while offering practical guidance on how to effectively handle ethical issues.
