The American College of Trial Lawyers, in conjunction with the New Jersey State Bar Association, presented this essential seminar on pre-trial and post-trial conduct.
As Justice Felix Frankfurter noted, “An attorney actively engaged in the conduct of a trial is not merely another citizen. He is an intimate and trusted and essential part of the machinery of justice, an ‘officer of the court’ in the most compelling sense.”
In this interactive and insightful program, New Jersey Fellows of the American College of Trial Lawyers utilized video vignettes and hypotheticals to analyze 14 separate ethical dilemmas, discussing the optimal and most ethical ways to handle each one. Viewers are challenged and entertained by vignettes such as “The Juror Who Failed to Disclose,” “Cross Examining One’s Own Client,” and “The Judges Who Like Golf.” This program provides a stronger understanding of ethical obligations while inspiring attorneys with the aspirational principles that guide litigators in all aspects of their work as advocates of client interests. As Chief Justice Roberts quoted, “The Code looks beyond the minimum ethical requirements that every lawyer must follow and instead identifies those practices that elevate the profession and contribute to fairness in the administration of justice.”
