At the New Jersey State Bar Association, respecting our customers’ privacy is very important to us.

The information we collect is used strictly for internal purposes, except as noted below. The data allows the NJSBA to better understand our members and customers, thereby helping us fulfill our mission of better serving the legal profession.

The demographic information that we collect online is used to improve the content of our website, notify members and customers about updates to our website, and enable us to reach out to share information about the association.

Member And Customer Demographic Information

The NJSBA, and its educational arm NJICLE, collect demographic information from our members and customers on a voluntary basis. The NJSBA believes that by collecting and analyzing information about race, gender and other demographic variables, we can better serve our members and customers. For instance, each year the Board of Trustees analyses existing information about the NJSBA membership in order to designate what groups should be considered underrepresented, as per the bylaws.

All responses are kept private and it is never the case that a person is required to provide information in order to be a member or customer. The goal is only to serve all of its communities in a more effective manner.

Website Visitor Information

We collect information you provide through accounts, forms, surveys, requests, saved practice areas, and website searches. Website and security services also process technical information needed to deliver and protect the site. Optional analytics and the separate search and preference features described below collect different information; not all website information is anonymous or limited to aggregate totals.

Postal Addresses

If you supply us with your postal address you may receive periodic mailings from us with information on new products, services, or upcoming events. Persons who supply us with telephone numbers online may receive telephone calls from us with information regarding requests or questions they have made.

Sharing With Your Permission

NJSBA shares information with providers of related products and services that may interest you only with your consent. We do not share addresses or telephone numbers for these marketing purposes.

Saved Practice Areas And Program Finder

You may select multiple practice areas to personalize the Program Finder. When you choose to remember areas in your browser, the selections are stored in that browser’s local storage without an automatic expiration. They do not follow you to another device unless saved to your account. You can change your areas or clear the browser’s site data to remove browser-stored selections.

Account-saved areas use the same preferences as My Practice Areas and are available to authorized staff. If you sign in with remembered browser areas and your account has no saved areas, those browser selections are automatically saved to your account. If your account already has different areas, you can choose whether to merge them. We retain the previous account selection for recovery and account-linked comparison information for usage reports.

Saving practice areas does not subscribe you to marketing emails or authorize sharing for marketing. Credit, ethics, attendance, and search filters are not saved as your account’s practice-area preferences. With Statistics consent, their use may be recorded for reporting.

Program Finder Usage Reports

With your Statistics consent, we record Program Finder searches, selected filters and areas, result counts, program-detail clicks, and registration-link clicks. The activity table groups matching activity by day and does not attach your account ID or raw IP address. Search text can still contain personal information; please do not enter confidential client information, passwords, or other sensitive details. The reporting code masks common email and phone-number patterns, but this does not remove every kind of identifying information.

Authorized staff can review this information to improve programs and help visitors find relevant content. Scheduled staff emails contain aggregate counts, not raw search terms or names. Registration-link clicks do not establish that a purchase was completed. Activity older than 90 days is removed by periodic cleanup triggered by new recorded activity; account preferences, recovery copies, report comparison records, backups, and email copies have separate retention. Contact us about access, correction, or deletion requests.

Site Search And AI-Assisted Answers

The separate site-wide search processes and records search text, search refinements, result counts, and search-result clicks to operate and improve search. These server-side search functions operate separately from optional analytics cookies. Please do not put confidential client information or other sensitive personal information in the search box.

AI-assisted answers are enabled for eligible questions. The search service may send your question and relevant website-result excerpts to Google’s Gemini service to generate a short answer. The integration does not deliberately add your account ID or IP address to that request, but information you type is part of the question. AI answers may be inaccurate; use the linked source pages to confirm information. Search records and AI processing are separate from the Program Finder’s Statistics-consent setting.

NJSBA uses necessary cookies to preserve your login status, support website security, remember your cookie choices, and provide website functions you request. With your permission, optional cookies help us understand website use and improve your visit. Visiting or continuing to use a website does not itself constitute consent to optional cookies.

Information Our Analytics Software May Collect

IP Addresses

An IP address is a unique identifier that certain electronic devices use to identify and communicate with each other on the Internet. When you visit our websites, we may view the IP address of the device you use to connect to the Internet. We use this information to determine the general physical location of the device and understand from what geographic regions our website visitors come. We also may use this information to enhance our websites.

We may use one or more of these technologies to gather information and statistics regarding use of our websites. We also use site analytics and tracking information to generate various reports regarding use of our websites. These reports contain aggregated information about users use of our websites.

What Are Your Choices Regarding Cookies?
