Atlantic City – New Jersey Supreme Court justices, state legislators, and top legal experts will gather tomorrow, at the New Jersey State Bar Association’s Annual Meeting and Convention in Atlantic City.
Thursday’s highlights:
Seminars showcase several current, retired and former members of the New Jersey Supreme Court, as well as representatives of the federal bench and Legislature. Programming will cover hot topics, including diversity and inclusion, bail reform, and civility issues, including:
• Joyful Journey
• Rising Up the Ladder: Gender/Equity Issues for New Jersey’s Female Lawyers
• Supreme Court Year in Review 2016
• Morally Straight – James Dale on the Boy Scouts of America and Fighting for Equality in the 21st Century
• Public hearing on judicial independence in the municipal courts
• Forced Marriage and Child Marriage: Yes, They Happen Here
With 2,700 lawyers and judges in attendance, the event is the premiere annual gathering of the state’s legal community. It began today and continues through Friday.

Officers sworn in:
A new slate of officers will be installed tomorrow to lead the association’s executive committee. Thomas H. Prol will become president of the association. New Jersey Chief Justice Stuart Rabner will administer the oath of office. The event begins at 7 p.m.
Prol said he is humbled to serve as the 118th president of the association. The solo practitioner from Bernardsville said that during his tenure as president he will oversee the implementation of a leadership academy, continue the work of a commission that is looking for ways to address the unmet legal needs of residents as well as the need among many in the legal community for viable clients; and advocate for an impartial judicial branch and for the critical role attorneys must play in the future of the profession.
In addition to Prol’s installation, the other members of the executive committee will move up the succession ladder. Robert B. Hille becomes president-elect; John E. Keefe Jr. becomes first vice president; Evelyn Padin becomes second vice president; Kimberly A. Yonta becomes treasurer; and Domenick Carmagnola becomes secretary. Miles S. Winder III becomes immediate past president.
At the installation event, American Bar Association President Paulette Brown will also be recognized for her leadership in New Jersey and around the country.

Chief Justice Stuart Rabner and U.S. District Court of New Jersey Chief Judge Jerome Simandle will deliver State-of-the-Judiciary speeches at 9 a.m.
