Comments on FM Case Management Order: The Board agreed to submit comments on the Judiciary’s proposal to remove the FM Case Management Order as an appendix to the Court Rules. The Family Law Section opposed having the FM form stripped from the Court Rules Appendix over access to justice issues and concerns that the public would no longer have input on any changes to forms in the Appendix.
Rule 3:26-2 Amendment: The Board voted to submit comments on proposed amendments to Rule 3:26-2 that would address changes in conditions of pretrial release and procedures to handle violations of monitoring. The amendments would allow for a six-month review of a defendant’s compliance with all release conditions, and provide timeframes for handling alleged violations of monitoring. The Criminal Law Section supported the amendments, but had some recommendations for additional clarifications.
ABA Resolution on Judicial Safety: The Board supported American Bar Association Resolution 516, which urges Congress to pass the Countering Threats and Attacks on Our Judges Act. The bill seeks to improve the security of judges, their staff and their families by creating a State Judicial Threat and Intelligence Resource Center. The U.S. Senate passed the bill by unanimous consent in June. It is currently under consideration by the U.S. House of Representatives.
Meeting Contracts: The Board approved hotel contracts for the 2025 Mid-Year Meeting in Sorrento, Italy and the 2025 and 2026 Annual Meeting in Atlantic City. The 2025 Mid-Year Meeting will be held at the Hilton Sorrento Palace Hotel. The Annual Meeting will return to the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa.
LexisNexis Colorbooks: The Board agreed to enter into a cooperative marketing agreement with LexisNexis to co-brand and co-market seven statutory law volumes, known as the “Colorbooks.” The books are dedicated to an individual subject area in the law, such as criminal, estate and family. Each book covers relevant laws and regulations.
Pro Bono Awards: The Board approved the list of honorees for the 2024 Pro Bono Awards. The six recipients will be honored at an award ceremony on Oct. 29.
The Board voted to support the following pending legislation in the state Legislature:
A1896 Conaway / S702 Singer– a bill that adopts the Dentist and Dental Hygienist Compact in New Jersey, allowing dentists and dental hygienists licensed in a compact state to practice in any other compact state.
