The following is a summary of actions taken at the meeting of the New Jersey State Bar Association Board of Trustees at the New Jersey Law Center in New Brunswick. This summary does not constitute official minutes.
General Council Annual Meeting date and location change approved
The NJSBA Board of Trustees voted to move the date and location of the General Council annual meeting to May, to coincide with the association’s Annual Meeting and Convention in Atlantic City.
The meeting will take place on May 16 at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa. General Council members who only attend the General Council meeting will not be charged a registration fee for the convention. The Annual General Council election for a member to serve on the association’s Nominating Committee will still take place in October by electronic voting.
The General Council makes recommendations to the association on matters affecting the membership and the legal community at large. It includes leaders of the association, New Jersey State Bar Foundation, and county and specialty bar associations.
Legislative award honorees selected
The trustees approved a recommendation from the Legislative Committee to recognize James Gerrow, Thomas Roughneen, NJSBA Second Vice President Kimberly Yonta, and Nebojsa Zlatanovic with the 2018 Distinguished Legislative Service Award for their efforts in advancing the Veterans Diversion Program.
Budget introduced
The New Jersey State Bar Association Board of Trustees introduced an $11.6 million draft general operating budget for the organization for the 2018-2019 fiscal year at their March 9 meeting. The fiscal year begins July 1.
The budget reflects $11.6 million in projected revenue and nearly equivalent that in projected expenses. Among other things, it continues a program that provides new attorneys free membership in their first year of admittance, and half-priced dues in the second year.
The board’s action is the first step in a two-part process. The budget will return to the board for final approval in June.
