ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Join the New Jersey State Bar Association for our 2026 Diversity Summit, a daylong exploration of power, justice and accountability against the backdrop of today’s headlines. How are these forces playing out today, in a landscape where efforts to eliminate historic and systemic inequities have been maligned, restricted and flat out prohibited? Who holds the power now, and how is it being wielded?

The day will include seminars on everything from the state’s role in civil rights investigations to practical tips for legal professionals on navigating the power structures within law firms, agencies, and corporations. And don’t miss the lunchtime keynote, as attendees hear from nationally respected trial attorney Antonio Ramanucci, who will share case studies of some of his highest profile cases including George Floyd, Sonya Massey and Renee Good.

Achieving Accountability in the Days of Denial and Cover Stories: Complexities of Municipal and Federal Liability in Law Enforcement Cases
In this interactive presentation and conversation, nationally respected trial attorney Antonio Romanucci shares insights into the country’s complex history of policing and accountability, and takes a close look at challenges with municipal liability including qualified immunity and a current legal blind spot that makes it especially arduous to hold federal officers accountable for their actions. The presentation includes case studies of four of Antonio’s highest profile police cases from around the nation (George Floyd, Javier Ambler, Sonya Massey and Renee Good) and examines their challenges as well as legislative paths to address systemic issues and create positive change in communities. The discussion will also examine the broader national effort to create equal access to justice that require Congressional engagement and action.
