The foundation of our justice system is fairness. Fairness is achieved by ensuring each litigant experiences procedural fairness and cases are adjudicated justly and equitably. When dealing with people of diverse cultural backgrounds, there are additional considerations to ensure fairness, such as a language barrier or religious and cultural practices (e.g. wearing a hijab or yarmulke in court). These challenges are present in every type of court and at all stages of a case.
Our distinguished panels will discuss a range of considerations and examples in three specific contexts:
- Cultural diversity considerations in the courts.
- Cultural diversity considerations during depositions.
- Cultural diversity considerations in communicating and interacting with clients.
