In New Jersey, nearly one out of four residents is an immigrant and over a quarter-million U.S. citizens live with at least one undocumented relative, according to the American Immigration Council. If you are an attorney licensed to practice in the diverse tri-state area then you will learn to better serve our population through this enlightening presentation. It is designed to demystify the basics of immigration law.

This course will equip state practitioners of any practice areas with preliminary knowledge about the U.S. immigration system to (a) avoid implicit and explicit bias about your clients, (b) identify legal issues you may need to refer to other specialties, (c) avoid potential conflicts of interests, and (d) help you distinguish facts from rhetoric and opinions.

Topics include:

  • Immigration history and law trivia
    • Covering history and development of immigration law, agency structure and binding law.
  • Overview of U.S. immigration law
