Communities across the country are facing mounting public health and environmental concerns due to widespread contamination of our most vital shared natural resource – water. From streams, rivers, lakes, and reservoirs, through groundwater and aquifers, toxic chemicals are making their way into our drinking water sources, the land and soil.

The current state of water contamination claims is rapidly reshaping the landscape of environmental litigation, with highly complex scientific data, ever-evolving governmental regulations, and emerging threats of further contamination not yet litigated.

Lawyers play a crucial role in ensuring clean water by enforcing the laws intended to preserve water quality, advocating for stricter regulations, and representing communities affected by pollution.

The conference will begin with a keynote address by New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Sean LaTourette, who will give a state of the union on clean water initiatives and current and future litigation and regulations. The day will continue with a primer on the Clean Water Act, a review of the latest in clean water enforcement and permitting developments, and suggestions for best practices for prosecuting liability claims related to water contamination. The program will also discuss wastewater contamination, legislative, municipal, and financial challenges in remediating contamination, and newly emerging concerns for further water contamination with microplastics and other toxic chemicals like Chromium and 1,4-dioxane.

Don’t miss this practical, in-depth look at the current and future state of water law, regulation, and litigation from the state’s leaders in environmental law and governance.
