ATLANTIC CITY–
Evelyn Padin was sworn in as first vice president of the New Jersey State Bar Association.
She took the oath of office at the association’s annual dinner and installation
of officers at the Borgata Hotel, Casino & Spa in Atlantic City.
She is on track to become the first Latina president of the
state’s leading group for lawyers, judges and legal professionals in 2019.
Padin, a Jersey City practitioner who handles family law and
personal injury matters, said she is honored and humbled to be a part of the
association’s leadership.
“I will do my utmost to further its mission as well as
foster greater opportunities for women in the profession, promote diversity and
advance the cause of the fundamental importance of the independence of the
Judiciary in our society,” she said.
Her practice also includes, and personal injury negligence
matters, and criminal and matrimonial litigation. She is a former municipal
court judge and served as in-house counsel for the Jersey City Office of
Landlord Tenant Relations.
Padin has extensive experience in
the association, including serving on its Nominating, Diversity, Meeting
Arrangements and Program, Finance and Judicial and Prosecutorial Appointments committees.
She also belongs to the Women in the Profession and Family Law sections. She
previously served on the Nominating Committee. She is also a trustee of the
Hudson County Bar Association, serves on the board of governors of the New
Jersey Association for Justice, and is a former trustee of the Hispanic Bar
Association of New Jersey.
She owns several businesses in
Jersey City. She is a graduate of Rutgers University, has a master’s degree in
social work from Fordham University, and earned her law degree from Seton Hall
University School of Law.
