Presented in cooperation with the NJSBA Immigration Law Section

Join an outstanding panel of insiders and immigration attorneys for a unique, impactful look inside the US/Mexico Border through the lens of international law, immigration law and federal criminal law.

This outstanding panel consists of:

Michelle Hackman, Immigration and Policy Reporter, of the Wall Street Journal

Leon Rodriguez, Esq., former Director of USCIS under President Obama, and current Board of Directors of HIAS. He will speak about NGO’s at the border and how they navigate federal and state policies.

Brian Strassburger, S.J., a Jesuit priest who works for the Diocese of Brownsville. Father Strassburger will discuss the day in and day out of migrants, how they navigate US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), etc.
Therese Cardinal Brown, Senior Advisor, Immigration and Border Policy Bipartisan Policy Center, Washington

Eileen S. King English, Esq., King English Immigration Law LLC, Freehold. Eileen serves on the Executive Committee of the Immigration Law Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association and is a member of the New Jersey chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association.

The seminar will begin with the speakers defining the issue at the U.S./Mexico border by the numbers, with statistics regarding the number of migrants seeking to enter. They will discuss Title 42 as well as the “Remain in Mexico” policy and what that statute and policy allow(ed).

The speakers will next attempt to clarify misconceptions about asylum law, and discuss the legality of family separation and civil v. criminal detention. They will also discuss statistics about the flow of fentanyl and other illegal drugs into the United States through the southern border and dispel myths about the connection between the increase in fentanyl and migrants. They will also delve into specific state reactions to the increase in migrants (Arizona, Texas, Florida, New York, etc.).

Finally, the seminar will posit some possible solutions to the border issue, and discuss what the Biden administration has the authority to do. Of course, they will also answer your questions.

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to separate fact from fiction and learn international law and
asylum from some of the top experts!
