Your MCLE Requirements

Your CLE Requirements Explained

As an attorney in New Jersey, you have to earn (24) credits during your two-year reporting period. Of the (24) credits you earn, (5) need to be in the areas of ethics and/or professionalism, and of those (5) ethics credits, a minimum of (2) must be concentrated in diversity, inclusion, and elimination of bias. 12 credits must be taken by attending in-person courses.

Unless otherwise exempt, every active New Jersey licensed attorney in good standing is required to complete 24 credit hours of continuing legal education every two years. Of those 24 credits, 5 must be in ethics and/or professionalism and at least 2 of the 5 must be in diversity, inclusion & elimination of bias (BCLE Reg. 201:1).

Note: Amendment to CLE requirements starting January 1, 2024 – A minimum of 12 credits must be taken either in-person or through live webcasts which allow for direct interaction with the instructor during the presentation of the course. Courses taken through alternative verifiable learning formats, if approved for CLE shall account for no more than twelve credit hours per compliance period.
