Don't miss this opportunity to catch up on the 2024 LGBTQ+ Annual Update - The Fire is (Still) Burning you missed!
Presented in cooperation with the NJSBA LGBTQ+ Rights Section
The replay features two national speakers whose important work has been recognized throughout the United States!
The annual LGBTQ+ Legal Update continues the discussion from the similar session at the 2023 NJSBA Annual Meeting. Nearly one year later, the legal landscape has not improved. In fact, in some ways the anti-trans climate has worsened. This reality is evidenced by the more than 125 pieces of anti-trans legislation have been introduced in state legislatures across the country at the start of their new sessions. But the crisis is not limited to legislation. There remains a continuing need to understand the fragility of equality under the law for people who are transgender, non-binary and gender non-conforming and the relevance of these issues across legal practice areas.
This annual program, sponsored by the NJSBA LGBTQ+ Rights Section, will feature keynote Richard Saenz, Senior Attorney and the Criminal Justice and Police Misconduct Strategist, Lambda Legal and endnote D Dangaran, Director of Gender Justice, Rights Behind Bars, who will place these issues in a national context. The event will focus on criminal justice contexts and offer a series of panels that examine topics such as gender affirming healthcare, culturally competent legal practice and inclusive educational and employment practices.
