- Lowenstein Sandler, LLP, Roselandwas an Associate Justice of the New Jersey Supreme Court for 20 years and is a Partner in the Litigation Group of Lowenstein Sandler LLP in Roseland, New Jersey, and Chair of the firm’s Appellate Practice. In addition to his trial and appellate practices, he serves as a neutral arbitrator, special master and mediator in complicated, high-stakes disputes. Justice Albin offers a unique perspective gained over 40 years in the practice of law as a prosecutor, defense attorney, civil litigator and as a Justice of the state’s highest court. As Associate Justice, he authored more than 400 opinions, including more than 230 majority opinions, more than 130 dissents and dozens of concurrences on issues spanning the wide spectrum of the law. He has written on topics including civil rights, criminal law, insurance, employment discrimination, contracts, taxes, municipal government, elections, products liability and mass toxic torts.
Justice Albin is admitted to practice in New Jersey. Prior to his appointment to the high court, he practiced in the public and private sectors, trying approximately 60 jury trials and numerous non-jury cases, and arguing numerous appeals. Justice Albin began his career as a Deputy Attorney General in the Appellate Section of the New Jersey Division of Criminal Justice, and then served as an Assistant Prosecutor in Passaic and Middlesex Counties before entering private practice and ascending to the bench of New Jersey’s court of last resort. He is the recipient of several honors, including the Eugene D. Serpentelli Award bestowed by the New Jersey State Bar Association Family Law Section and the Lawrence A. Whipple Memorial Award from the Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers of New Jersey.
Justice Albin received his B.A. from Rutgers University and his J.D. from Cornell University Law School.

A Fellow of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers and the American College of Trial Lawyers, and a Lifetime Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, he is Past President of both the Association of the Federal Bar of New Jersey and the Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers of New Jersey. Mr. Lustberg is also former Co-Chair of the Criminal Litigation Committee of the American Bar Association and has served on, and chaired, numerous court and government committees, and non-profit and philanthropic boards of directors. He has been Co-Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Fund for New Jersey and a member of the New Jersey State Advisory Committee to the United States Commission on Civil Rights, for which he chaired a Subcommittee on Immigration.
Mr. Lustberg has been a member of the faculties of Seton Hall, Rutgers and New York University Law Schools, and his articles have appeared in the New Jersey Law Journal and other publications. The recipient of the Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers of New Jersey’s highest honor, the Honorable Lawrence A. Whipple Memorial Award, he is the recipient of numerous other awards and accolades, including the Award of Excellence from the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, the Roger N. Baldwin Civil Liberties Award from the ACLU of New Jersey, the Debevoise-Eakely Award and Board Service Award from Legal Services of New Jersey, the Equality Hall of Fame Award from Garden State Equality and the Partners in Hope Award from Partners for Women and Justice. In 2013 the New Jersey Law Journal named him “Lawyer of the Year” in large part for his work to legalize same-sex marriage in New Jersey.
Mr. Lustberg received his B.A, magna cum laude, from Harvard College, and was the recipient of the International Graduate School Fellowship at the University of Stockholm. He received his J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School and clerked for the Honorable H. Lee Sarokin, United States District Judge.

- Harvard’s and UNC’s admissions programs violate the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment - Students for Fair Admissions, Inc. V. President and Fellows of Harvard College
- The First Amendment prohibits Colorado from forcing a website designer to create expressive designs [for an LGBTQ couple] with which the designer disagrees. -303 Creative LLC Et Al. V. Elenis Et Al
- In a rejection of ISL (Independent State Legislature) theory and with an opinion that has been called “one of the most important democracy cases in national history,” the Court held that the Elections Clause of the Constitution does not vest exclusive and independent authority in state legislatures to set the rules regarding federal elections. -Moore vs. Harper In other words, state legislatures cannot enact federal election laws without any checks and balances.
All of these cases, plus others from the Courts’ recent term, raise questions about the Constitution and how it practically applies to issues that affect our lives and the lives of our clients.

About Prof. Amar:
Prof. Akhil Reed Amar teaches constitutional law in both Yale College and Yale Law School. After graduating from Yale and clerking for then Judge (now Justice) Stephen Breyer, Amar joined the Yale faculty in 1985 at the age of 26. His work has won awards from both the American Bar Association and the Federalist Society, and he has been cited by Supreme Court justices across the spectrum in more than 41 cases—tops in his generation, and indeed among all active scholars.
He regularly testifies before Congress at the invitation of both parties; and in surveys of judicial citations and/or scholarly citations, he invariably ranks among America’s five most-cited mid-career legal scholars. In 2008 he received the DeVane Medal—Yale’s highest award for teaching excellence. He has written widely for popular publications, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, Time, and The Atlantic and is the author of dozens of law review articles and several books. He was an informal consultant to the popular TV show The West Wing, and his constitutional scholarship has been showcased on The Colbert Report, The O’Reilly Factor, and Constitution USA with Peter Sagal. He is Yale’s only active professor to have won the University’s unofficial triple crown—the Sterling Chair for scholarship, the DeVane Medal for teaching, and the Lamar Award for alumni service.
