Civil, Criminal, Family – What Every Attorney Needs to Know

The Office of Administrative Law (OAL) was established in 1979 to create a central independent agency to conduct appeals hearings of determinations by administrative agencies. The office’s goal was to promote due process, expedite the just conclusion of contested cases and improve the quality of administrative justice. Today, the OAL employs a corps of administrative law judges who hear contested cases for state agencies and issue initial decisions. Even so, there are instances in which cases in the OAL may overlap with cases in Superior Court.

This replay will cover the intersection of administrative law with matters arising from civil, criminal and family matters and what attorneys should know about how agency determinations can impact their representation of clients. It will also address how failure to take administrative action into account can result in serious harm to the client and malpractice for the attorney.
