NEW BRUNSWICK – The New Jersey State Bar Association’s Board of Trustees acted on several measures at its March 10 meeting.
The Board accepted and discussed several measures in a report by the NJSBA’s Putting Lawyers First Task Force. The report, produced by dozens of attorneys from a wide range of practice areas, suggested meaningful ways to make life in the practice better for attorneys, such as working with the Judiciary to create working groups on both wellness and the attorney ethics system. The NJSBA will continue to share the report’s findings with relevant groups in the Association and craft an action plan to implement to the task force’s recommendations.
The Board approved the Judicial Administration Committee’s recommendation to adopt more than two dozen comments on proposed rule changes by the state Supreme Court. The rule change comments were submitted by six NJSBA sections and committees.
The Board voted to approve Dublin as the destination of the 2024 Mid-Year Meeting and Costa Rica for the 2024 Family Law Retreat. Trustees also accepted a proposal for the 2024 Family Law Symposium to be held at the Hyatt New Brunswick.
The Board supported the following bills in the state Legislature:
• S1211 Singleton/A1222 Pintor Marin—a bill that provides for civil actions against persons or entities profiting from commission of human trafficking offenses or maintaining victims of such offenses.
• A4888 Quijano/S3332 Vitale—a measure that eliminates the fee for filing a certified copy of name change order.
• A634 Coughlin—a bill authorizing the development and operation of a computer system to allow electronic access of outstanding arrest warrant information.
