The New Jersey State Bar Association’s General Council is seeking candidates who want to be considered for a spot on the group that helps review and select leadership candidates for association.
Anyone who wants to be considered for a two-year term on the association’s Nominating Committee must file a petition signed by no fewer than 10 members of the council. Petitions are due Sept. 13. Candidates from Mercer County are not permitted this year. Information about candidates, including video statements and biographical information will be posted online when the filing deadline passes.
E-VOTING
This year, voting for the seat will be administered electronically by a third-party group, Intelliscan Inc. In prior years, voting was only allowed at the General Council’s meeting or through absentee ballot.
The electronic voting approach is consistent with how the association conducts voting in membership elections and officials hope it will enfranchise those members who may not be able to make it to the General Council Annual Meeting, but still want to add their voice to the decision-making process.
ANNUAL MEETING
The council will continue to hold its annual meeting. The event will be Oct. 13 at the New Jersey Law Center in New Brunswick. The meeting, which begins at 1 p.m., will include an interactive Town Hall-style meeting, the consideration of any resolutions the membership proposes, and the announcement of the election results.
The association’s General Council is a body comprised of leaders of the association, New Jersey State Bar Foundation, and county and diversity bar associations. The group makes recommendations to the association’s Board of Trustees on matters affecting the membership and the legal community.
