NEW BRUNSWICK – On behalf of the tens of thousands of members of some of the state's leading legal organizations, we condemn the recent scourge of anti-Semitic violence that have cost innocent members of our communities their lives.
From the murders of a police officer and innocent civilians in Jersey City, to damaging hate-based graffiti in numerous other communities in our state, to the killing of people celebrating a joyous holiday across the border in New York, these crimes are occurring with far too much regularity in our great state and around the country. New Jersey is one of the most diverse states in the nation, and this is not who we are.
We pledge that the New Jersey legal community will not stand idly by. We all need to work to be part of the solution to prevent the bias and discrimination that underlie these hateful acts.
In his recent message to the public, New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal stressed the importance of educating students about bias and hate as a preventative to hate crimes. We are proud of the important work that the New Jersey State Bar Foundation has done in that regard for more than 25 years and commit to continuing to dedicate financial and human resources to extend these efforts as broadly as possible.
We vow to stand up for what is right, to ensure our communities are safe, and be agents of peace and justice. We further encourage the entire legal community and the broader citizenry to come together to support these important goals.
