NOTICE OF JOB VACANCY #24-131

TITLE: Deputy Attorney General 4 OR Deputy Attorney General 3

SALARY: D4 – $87,578.62 to $124,980.46
D3 – $100,682.82 to $143,971.92

LOCATION: Division of Law Litigation Practice Group Law Enforcement and Corrections Section 25 Market Street, Trenton, NJ 08625

NUMBER OF POSITIONS AVAILABLE: Four (4)

The Division of Law is seeking litigators at associate levels of experience to join the Law Enforcement and Corrections (“LEC”) section. The LEC section defends State agencies and current and former State employees in civil rights matters. These matters often involve excessive force, fatal shootings, wrongful arrest, conditions of confinement, religious, medical and legal access and ADA claims. LEC deputies’ practice in the U.S. District Court, N.J. Superior Court, OAL, Government Records Council and the EEOC. The LEC section also provide general counsel to the Department of Corrections.

DUTIES: The Deputy Attorneys General work under the supervision of the Assistant Attorneys General in the Litigation Practice Group and the Section Chief and Assistant Section Chiefs of the Law Enforcement and Corrections Section. The Law Enforcement and Corrections Section defends the State, its agencies and employees in civil rights litigation in state and federal courts. The deputies in this Section handle the full spectrum of litigation, including pleadings, discovery, depositions, motion practice and trial.

REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor. Admission to practice as an Attorney-at-Law in the State of New Jersey is required.

EXPERIENCE: DEPUTY ATTORNEY GENERAL 4: Two (2) years of experience as a practicing attorney. DEPUTY ATTORNEY GENERAL 3: Three (3) years of experience as a practicing attorney.

LICENSE: Appointee will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

PREFERENCE: Preference will be given to attorneys with excellent writing skills and experience in writing summary judgment briefs.

*SALARY NOTE: For newly hired individuals, the starting salary will be determined by the Department commensurate with experience. Salary offers are non-negotiable and will fall within the range posted.
