NEW BRUNSWICK – Evelyn Padin, a Jersey City attorney, is the immediate past president of the New Jersey State Bar Association.
She took the oath of office for the one-year term last night at the NJSBA 2020 Virtual Annual Meeting.
Padin was the first Latina president of the Association, New Jersey’s leading group for judges, lawyers and legal professionals.
“It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve as NJSBA president,” she said.
In her remarks, Padin took a moment to recognize New Jersey residents and Association members who died from complications related to COVID-19.
During her tenure, Padin focused the Association’s work as a fierce advocate for New Jersey attorneys on the state and national level. She continued efforts to ensuring access to the justice system through several volunteer events in inner-city communities; expanding diversity and inclusion efforts in the NJSBA and legal profession; and raising awareness and funds from the legal community to feed New Jersey's children who do not have enough to eat.
Her practice focuses on personal injury litigation and family matters. She is a former municipal court judge.
Padin has extensive experience in the Association, including serving on its Nominating, Diversity, Meeting Arrangements and Program, Finance and Judicial and Prosecutorial Appointments committees. She also belongs to the Women in the Profession and Family Law sections. She previously served on the Nominating Committee. She is a trustee of the Hudson County Bar Association and a former trustee of the Hispanic Bar Association of New Jersey. Padin is a founding member of the Justice Virginia Long American Family Inns of Court in Hudson County.
She owns several businesses in Jersey City and is active with the Carevel Foundation. She is a graduate of Rutgers University, has a master’s degree in social work from Fordham University and earned her law degree from Seton Hall University School of Law. Padin is also a graduate of the James Beard Foundation Women’s Entrepreneurial Leadership Program.
