NEW BRUNSWICK – With the holidays fast approaching, the New Jersey State Bar Association’s Lawyers Feeding New Jersey (LFNJ) program is accepting donations to benefit those in the state who struggle with hunger.
The NJSBA and its members are proud to have raised over $100,000 since 2014 to support food insecure residents in New Jersey with nutritious meals. The feat is a testament to the profound generosity of the state’s legal community, who believe that no person or family should worry about where their next meal will come from and when, according to NJSBA President Jeralyn L. Lawrence.
“Despite these efforts, hunger is still a pervasive issue and an everyday struggle for far too many in the state,” Lawrence said. “The fight against hunger is a long-term battle, but as a collective group, we can help move the needle.”
Donations to LFNJ support the Community FoodBank of New Jersey (CFBNJ), the state’s largest anti-hunger and anti-poverty organization. For more than 45 years, the CFBNJ has provided food, help and hope by supplying meals and offering access to other critical resources. The organization distributes 85 million meals annually through its ¬network of more than 800 community partners throughout 15 New Jersey counties.
Roughly 650,000 people in New Jersey are food insecure, and 175,000 of them are children, according to Carlos Rodriguez, president of the CFBNJ.
“With inflation at a historic high, support for the fight against hunger is critical, now more than ever,” Rodriguez said.
The NJSBA have been steadfast supporters through years and helped the organization weather periods of increased demand, he added. The NJSBA’s Family Law Section has held multiple fundraisers, including one this fall, to directly benefit the CFBNJ.
“We’re so grateful for the New Jersey State Bar Association’s commitment to our mission. For years they’ve helped us to meet the needs of our neighbors,” Rodriguez said.
