NEW BRUNSWICK – NJSBA President Jeralyn L. Lawrence recently welcomed the launch of the New Jersey Housing Justice Corps.
The corps is a fellowship program developed through a collaboration between Seton Hall Law School and Rutgers Law School, Camden and Newark locations, with funding provided by the New Jersey Legislature. A two-day training was held in mid-September at the New Jersey Law Center in New Brunswick for the fellows who are all recent law graduates or new attorneys. The mission of the program is to combat housing instability through direct representation and strategic efforts.
“Helping people feel secure in knowing they have a safe home for their loved ones will change people’s lives,” said Lawrence.
During the recent training, the fellows practiced client communication skills, like how to ask key questions, with the help of Legos, with one person building a structure and another asking key questions to recreate it, without looking.
