NEW BRUNSWICK – Volunteer attorneys and two dozen students will take part in a constitutional rights workshop in Atlantic City this week.
The workshop is scheduled for May 16 at the Boys and Girls Club of Atlantic City.
Attorneys from the New Jersey State Bar Association will work in small groups with students to discuss the importance of constitutional rights, how they apply to minors as opposed to adults, why those rights exist, how they have evolved, and how they relate to the lives and personal experiences of the students.
The program is part of the NJSBA’s efforts to improve diversity and inclusion in the profession. For the first time in its history, the association has a director of diversity initiatives, is asking its leaders to make an annual report about their diversity and inclusion efforts, and is organizing programs such as the one in Atlantic City to develop a pipeline to the profession for students.
The program will be held the day before the NJSBA starts its Annual Meeting and Convention at Borgata Hotel, Casino & Spa. The three-day conference brings together 2,700 judges, attorneys and legal professionals for more than 90 educational sessions, keynote speeches, and networking events.
