NJSBA Board of Trustees takes action at December meeting

The New Jersey State Bar Association’s Board of Trustees convened in December to support pending bills in the state Legislature and honor former Trustee Jeremy Farrell, who passed away earlier in the month.
The Board voted to posthumously recognize Farrell, 44, with a Distinguished Legislative Service Award for his contributions as a former chair of the NJSBA’s Legislative Committee. As special counsel and senior managing director of community and government affairs for the LeFrak Organization, Farrell offered invaluable expertise on the Association’s legislative initiatives. He was an active participant on legislative committee calls, often calling in while travelling out of the country to share his insights.
Farrell was also instrumental in helping arrange The Legislative Process: A User’s Guide for Lawyers – a CLE event where he joined a panel of state lawmakers to speak on lobbying, understanding the legislative process and legislative intent. He served as an At-Large Trustee on the Board before stepping down prior to the 2023-24 term.
The Board also voted to support the following pending Legislation:
A5285 Greenwald / S3708 Greenstein – A bill that requires victims of domestic violence to receive copies of law enforcement records upon request.
A1223 Pintor Marin / S378 Turner – A bill that allows municipalities to adjust deadlines when applying for a short-term exemption or abatement for dwellings. It also requires a provision of notice to purchasers of dwellings in areas in need of rehabilitation under certain circumstances.
