NEW BRUNSWICK – Dozens of volunteer attorneys will offer information and guidance on immigration and other legal issues to members of the public at a free event Wednesday.
Attorneys from the New Jersey State Bar Association, Hispanic Bar Association of New Jersey, Hudson County Bar Association and Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, along with Sen. Brian P. Stack, who is the mayor of Union City, and the city’s board of commissioners will take part in the March 29 event at Union City High School. The event will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
NJSBA President Thomas H. Prol said the association is proud to support Sen. Stack and efforts to work on behalf of disenfranchised citizens.
“The NJSBA is grateful for this opportunity to provide assistance to some of the most vulnerable members of our society. Keeping the doors to the courthouse open to members of our society is a critical mission of the association,” said Prol.
Sen. Stack added: “I am deeply grateful for the many attorneys who are volunteering their time, expertise and insight to assist the members of this community with their pressing legal concerns. Their commitment to the needs of our community is needed now more than ever.”
The evening includes a general session offering an overview of a variety of legal topics. Following that, attorneys, who include private lawyers, public employees, and victims’ advocates, will provide one-on-one legal guidance on a range of legal issues, such as guardianship for children, landlord-tenant issues, divorce, domestic violence restraining orders and criminal law matters, including expungements. Officials expect immigration-related issues to be a priority of attendees.
In addition to Stack, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez will address the attendees.
