YLD Goes to Washington: U.S. Supreme Court Swearing-In Ceremony
Members of the NJSBA Young Lawyers Division Executive Committee are invited to Washington D.C. for a U.S. Supreme Court swearing-in ceremony coordinated by the New Jersey State Bar Association on December 9, 2024. There are 12 spots available for this special opportunity, and attendees will be chosen on a first-come, first-serve basis. All trip participants must be members in good standing of the New Jersey State Bar Association and the Young Lawyers Division.
To qualify for admission to the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States, applicants:
- Must have been admitted to practice in the highest court of a State (New Jersey Supreme Court) for at least three years before the date of application;
- Must not have been the subject of any adverse disciplinary action during that three-year period;
- Must appear to be of good moral and professional character.
Additionally, applicants must:
- Have two sponsors and a movant. YLD Chair Brandon Lee Wolff will act as the movant for the NJSBA group. Sponsors must be members of the Bar of the Supreme Court who know you personally and are not related to you by blood or marriage. Should you require assistance in finding sponsors, the New Jersey State Bar Association will endeavor to help you find them.
- All applicants must fill out all required paperwork (including signed sponsor forms and a Certificate of Good Standing) and submit to the New Jersey State Bar Association by August 5, 2024.
- Pay a $200 filing fee. This is also due on August 5, 2024, at the time of form submission.
Attendees will be responsible for booking their own hotel stays, though the NJSBA will reserve a hotel room block at a special rate at the Capitol Hilton for the night before the ceremony. We are also looking at options for a group dinner the night before and a group lunch after the ceremony.
Eligible and interested?
Due to the limited number of spaces available, the first step in the process is to fill out the form below, which will open at noon on Friday, June 14, confirming interest and eligibility. The first 12 applicants will receive the required application papers. Individuals who do not make this first 12 cohort will be placed on a waitlist. Applicants will be notified of their status (confirmed or waitlisted) on Tuesday, June 18.
