Employee handbooks are more than a workplace formality or repository for policies, procedures, rules and a description of benefits. They are often the first place employers and employees look to resolve a workplace question, concern or issue. Well-drafted and consistently applied handbooks and policies can help an employer mitigate or even avoid wage and hour claims, employment discrimination and other common employment claims.

Join a panel of experienced employment law attorneys for a seminar on the do’s and don’ts of drafting effective employee handbooks for both large and small employers. The presenters will discuss the legal requirements and bases for policies, best practices and lessons learned in drafting and enforcement.

Topics include:

  • Important policies that should be included for federal and state law compliance;
  • Essential policies to include in every handbook and an explanation of why they are essential;
  • Policies or statements that should never be in a handbook;
  • Drafting policies for workforces that include employees from many states;
  • The impact of agency activity and court decisions on drafting and implementing your handbook; and
  • Should I include a policy on the use of artificial intelligence?
