Don’t miss the return of President John Adams, President Thomas Jefferson and Donald Scarinci in an all-new program and format. One of the most popular programs in NJICLE’s history has been revamped and updated.
John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, our second and third Presidents, signers of the Declaration of Independence, diplomats and statesmen, friends and rivals, and founding fathers, died on the same day, July 4th 1826, on the 50th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence.
Time and history brought these two totally different men (Adams the New Englander, federalist and advocate, and Jefferson the Virginian, classic Republican and writer) together to help create some the fundamental liberties we enjoy today. Both were lawyers, both were political. They were not perfect men, but their legal and political legacies can be seen every day in courtrooms across the country. Their timeless words echo through the generations, and as a nation we continue to try to live up to the ideals they espoused. Historian Joseph Ellis wrote that they “came to embody the American dialogue.” That dialogue about what freedom means and what role government should or shouldn’t play in the lives of its citizens continues unto this day and is the main pillar of our legal system. It also defines who we are as nation. We live in their vision and continually seek to understand it - both for ourselves and for those who will come after us.
As advocates, lawyers play a crucial role in advancing Adams and Jefferson’s ideals, so it is with pleasure that we announce the much pleasure that we welcome both back to the New Jersey Law Center. Portrayed by Peyton Dixon (Adams) and Steve Edenbo (Jefferson) and moderated by one of New Jersey’s top legal experts, Donald Scarinci, Esq. (Scarinci and Hollenbeck, Little Falls), this special program shares insight into some of the fundamental underpinnings of our legal system, including natural rights, liberty, equality, the roles and powers of legislatures and the judiciary.
Earn 4.0 CLE credits at this informative, historical and entertaining seminar which will explore some of the arguments and theories behind the fundamental underpinnings of our government and legal system.
